Chess Club Yesterday

Yesterday we left the house early for Chess club because we had people looking at our house! Yay, our agent said people are starting to look again.

Anyhow, Sabin and Andrew got right into chess after we had some lunch there. Their coach was there early and usually is and plays one on one with them. Once all the homeschoolers were there at the playplace things always get crazy. The little siblings play on the play place while the older kids play chess in the restaurant area. Eli always just walks around like he should or he goes through the playplace, well behaved and having fun. Some little boys there climb up the side of it and sit on this area where you throw balls, they aren't supposed to do but do it anyway, I watch them every week.

Anyhow, Poor Eli was trying to get the coordination down to join them (there are no steps and it is hard to get up there!). I felt bad for him as he always watches them with wonder but didn't even attempt to climb to them. Well, this week I watched him trying to so hard to hang on to a bar and use his toes to try and climb this thing, LOL. I felt bad for him because all the kids his age sit in it. So, what did I do? Yep, I did. I taught him how to climb this darn thing! LOL. I specifically showed him how to hang on and get up where he shouldn't go! LOL. He was so pleased sitting up there and he just sat there looking thrilled!

I was pretty pleased with myself and feeling a bit guilty for teaching him this, LOL Abram called me there and told me the people who looked at our house looked at 5 and liked ours and another the best. They are putting an offer on either the other one or this one thursday when they meet with the agent with their decision. Talk about drama. I am not even going to think about it….

Developmental Evaluation Update

OK, we are home.  This lady was great and she did all kinds of tests and had Eli do all sorts of things.

Anyhow, she said that cognitively he is doing great. She said he is really intelligent and was impressed. She also said that he was well schooled and she sees that a lot with homeschoolers to continue doing whatever it is. She did say that speech wise she can tell that he was late. She said they see that a lot with kids who had a hard first few years, she thinks he will be fine because his speech is taking off. He just uses words in place of others and that comes with knowing what to say but not having the experience to get it all out there. She did say that socially he needs some help to make sure he is interacting with anyone a lot and she definitely recommended an OT because he definitely  has sensory problems. She also suggested that I put him on a schedule at home to help him with structure.

I was so hesitant to go because I wasn't sure if he needed to  but now that we did I am really glad for it.

Curriculum Fever!

Something scary happens to me at this time every year . I know tax returns are  coming soon, Yippey! What does that mean? The fever begins… the obsession with homeschool curriculum. The possibility of buying so many things at the touch of a button! I am so excited! I already have online shopping carts full of items and only need to press purchase!

I am eagerly watching my mailbox… Surprised and we haven't even submitted our tax info yet!

Sabin Who?

We haven't seen much of Sabin lately. He has taken up reading Eragon and has his nose in that book from the moment school is finished until bedtime. He only appears for food and then he is gone again, LOL

Milk Protein Allergy

After 4 years of treatment and surgery for GERD our GI starts to believe we had been barking up the wrong tree and treating the surface on Eli. He ran many tests and they came back that Eli has milk protein allergy. This was a month ago

We were then told to take milk out of his diet. He is 4 years old and has been treated for reflux for 4 years! And they just now find this out and tell me? I haven't talked about this much publicly or privately. Abram and I are so devestated about this and when we bring it up we both just can't talk and change the subject. Why??? Since taking milk out of Eli's diet he has not thrown up, no tummy aches, and no choking or gagging on food. Did I say that outloud?? This has NEVER happened! NEVER!

I just can't even express how upset I am. How awful I feel that this wasn't looked into sooner. Why didn't we think to have him tested for allergies? We were told severe reflux and went with that. He does have DGE, his docs claim he does have reflux disease but I am telling you I don't know I believe he has reflux. I think the untreated milk protein allergy could have been causing all the vomiting and misery. I mean we do know his stomach was deformed on the bottom and that couldn't be caused from reflux BUT he is feeling so good for the first time that it just makes me want to bawl like a baby that maybe all this pain and misery could have been avoided. Well, most of it. I feel we have been feeding him a disease these 4 years by not knowing to restrict dairy from his diet. We were doing this to him. I am sure I will have more entries about this as we come to grips with it.

Peripheral Neuropathy? and DGE still

Peripheral Neuropathy and DGE

More of an update since it has been so long. I know I gave a brief update on Eli but today I will go into more detail. First, since fundo they think he is still having problems with DGE.

Next, a few months ago during my time off here Eli started having leg pain, big time. WE took him to the ER after several days of this and we were told it was peripheral neuropathy due to malabsorption. Then, we were sent to a neurologist who said it probably has to do with how he is digesting foods. Anyhow, we don't know what it is and it is better but it still there. Another mystery for Eli, just wanted to get that out there for the blog

Eli got his Developmental Evaluation Appointment

I got a call today from the Central Valley Regional Center. Eli goes on the 29th of Jan for a consult. I don't know if anything will be done but we are definitely heading in a direction to where we will be seeing if he needs help and if so we will be getting it. I am very anxious for this appointment so we can get started and know if Eli is having any problems, he is really doing great and I am not sure he does but it will be good to know for sure :)

Sinusitis and the boys take Mom and Dad to the doc

Sinusitis and the boys take Mom and Dad to the doc

Picture this, Mom and Dad sitting on the table in the doctors room, 3 little boys look on worried and concerned. Mom and Dad feet dangling while they wait for the diagnosis, LOL. Our last week has been a nightmare. I came down sick, Abram came down sick, we are both sick and went to the doc's together finally last night. All piled in the car. We never get sick so it was pretty much drama around here all week. We have a lot of drugs in us now so we are much better!

The poor kids had to fend for themselves and were bored out of their minds. We are better so hopefully this is all behind us!

Homeschooling, where we are and what we do

Well, this year for homeschooling is going great! We took a plunge and switched to Sonlight after getting bored of Abeka last year. Not that we don't love Abeka, it is great. We just wanted something different and to dig deeper and read really great real books! Boy, are we ever glad we did. Sabin even told me today "Mom, do you mind if I finish the rest of this book before doing math and language, it is so good!" I said sure of course you can finish the book  LOL, hello? He was ENJOYING his book!

We are still using Abeka for Language and some Math. I did switch Sabin to a different math but I don't like it so he will go back to Abeka next year, as well. We are half way through this year of World History, next year we will doing American History so it should be fun. I am already looking forward to the Box Day around here!

Eli is kind of hit and miss, of course. He listens to some of our read-alouds and I am finishing up Little Hands to Heaven. I have Core PreK from Sonlight waiting but it is a bit advanced for him so I think I may save it for kindergarten, not sure on that. Eli knows his sounds and is sounding out words thanks to LHTH. I think we will start K work once this is finished!

We have Moved!

Long time no talky, LOL.

OK, so I know I have missed a few months (OK, 5!) but we have switched blogs and are keeping on. I have a lot to catch up with. First of all, this blog is no longer only about Eli. He is doing well but this blog will be about all 3 boys.. Sabin, Andrew, and Eli. This will be about homeschooling, life, and living with these boys, and especially Eli's issues!!!!  So, This blog will definitely be interesting to say the the least! Phew!

OK, catch up on the E. The last 5 months have been spent with learning many new things about Eli such as he has some type of peripheral neuropathy which we are not sure if is a for sure thing or if he is now dealing with sensory issues. That is still being looked into. Eli is a bit behind developmentally from being so sick for so long.

On the reflux/fundo, he is now burping and vomiting through the fundo regularly. Our GI said he thinks we have been barking up the wrong tree for 4 years with Eli. So, Eli has undergone allergy testing. We have now recently found out he has a severe milk protein allergy. This could have been causing the reflux all along. We have taken out all milk products and Eli has been feeling the best ever. This has only been a few weeks but lets hope it continues. He has also been diagnosed with fructose malabsorption and he still has problems emptying….

Anyhow, I am glad to be blogging again!! 4 friends and I have started a site and forum for parents dealing with reflux, allergies, intolerances, sensory, and many other issues. We hope you will check us out. www.momswearingpuke.com . This has been a huge help for me and getting through these last 5 months of twists and turns in figuring out our mystery… Eli….
